Candied Kurobuta Ham with Cinnamon Apples

It’s time for a ham dinner again and, for myself, that means one thing:

Not just ham. Kurobuta Ham. This is the best ham in the world and I love being able to present it to my family for special occasions. This recipe will be easy and memorable for the entire family, so let’s get to it!

Ingredients

  • Kurobuta Ham

    • Snake River Farms Kurobuta Whole Bone-In Ham Buy Now +
    • 1 stick of butter (melted)
    • 1 1/2 cups maple syrup
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 tsp brown sugar
    • 3 cups apple juice
  • Cinnamon Apples

    • 5 apples
    • 1 cup apple juice
    • 3 Tbsp butter
    • 1 Tbsp cinnamon

Directions

Kurobuta Ham

  • Preheat the smoker or oven to 275. In a roasting pan, fill with 3 cups of apple juice. Place the ham in a rack inside the pan. Seasoning is not necessary, but optional.

  • Allow to cook in the oven or smoker, uncovered, for about one hour.

  • Cover the ham and pan with aluminum foil to let apple juice steam into meat. Let cook for 90 minutes.

  • Next comes the meat candy that we love so much. Combine melted butter, maple syrup, cinnamon and brown sugar. Whisk together well.

  • Remove foil covering the ham and pour the mixture all over the meat. Cook for approximately one more hour uncovered.

  • When the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees, the ham is ready to be pulled from the heat. Allow it to rest it for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

    Combine with cinnamon apples and serve with other sides!

Cinnamon Apples

  • Slice and core the apples.

    Combine all ingredients in a cast iron or other heavy skillet or dutch oven. Mix well.

  • Roast at 300 degrees for one hour.

    Serve immediately.
