How to Prepare and Carve a Bone-In Ham Video

Preparing and carving a bone-in ham just might be the easiest, and most delicious, thing you do this holiday season. Here’s an easy-to-follow video that will make you the ham expert at your house.

For those who also like to read, here are some bone-in ham preparation and carving tips.

Completely thaw your ham. Our hams are flash frozen and shipped in dry ice. A whole bone-in ham can weigh up to 18 pounds and requires two to three days in gently thaw in your refrigerator so plan ahead.

Snake River Farms hams are fully smoked using real hardwood and arrive fully cooked. Even so, they won’t taste quite right until they’ve been properly heated.

Heat oven to 325°F.

Remove wrappings from ham, or ham from wrappings, whatever the case may be.
Place ham, fat side up, in large roasting pan. While a glaze such as this Peach Pomegranate is delicious, our hams are wonderful without anything at all. Do not add water or cover.

Heat ham 3-1/2 to 4 hours or until internal temperature reaches 140°F. Begin checking the temperature at 3 hours.

Transfer ham to carving board and let stand uncovered for at least 15 minutes before carving.
